In the US, Kroger owned retailer Fred Meyer has adopted the Loop reusable packaging scheme in an initial 25 stores around Portland, Oregon.
The partnership makes Fred Meyer the first American retailer to partner with the sustainability company, who have partnerships with some of the world’s largest retailers such as Tesco in the UK and AEON in Japan.
Fred Meyer customers in Portland are now able buy from more than 20 food and household brands with Loop packaging including Cascade, Clorox, Gerber and Seventh Generation, with plans to expand the number of brands in coming months.
Refillable glass or metal containers will be found in foyers, allowing the customer to return them to the Loop bins to be cleaned and resold.
