Due to the current lockdowns taking place in Shanghai as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, JD.com has launched its autonomous delivery robots in the city’s Pudong New Area to provide a lifeline, with contactless last-mile delivery within certain neighborhoods.
Each delivery robot can load up to 100kg and due to AI technology, can recognize and avoid obstacles during its route to the destination.
JD.com debuted its first autonomous delivery vehicle in 2016 and so far, the company has launched nearly 400 autonomous delivery vehicles in more than 25 cities across China. They meet the delivery needs in locations such as residential compounds, commercial centers, business parks, hotels, university campuses, supermarkets and more
