Pinterest has unveiled an AR lens to bring décor into user’s own homes, offering a digital try before you buy experience. In implementing this technology, Pinterest joins retailers such as Amazon, Target, IKEA and Wayfair in offering an AR solution for furniture matching.
Pinterest is partnering with several American retailers, including Walmart, West Elm and Wayfair, to allow online shoppers to virtually place items in their home using the Lens feature, and if the user feels it’s a match, they can proceed to purchase the item directly from the retailer. The experience is made up of over 80,000 shoppable Pins, making it Pinterest’s largest AR shopping investment to date, in its largest category, with home décor receiving 3.37 billion search clicks in 2021.
Consumer interest in AR is on the increase, with 66% of people saying they wanted to use AR for help when shopping (Google, 2019) while conversion rates increase by 90% for customers who engage with AR, versus those who don’t (Vertebrae, 2020).
